FAQ-header

WILL YOU MAKE TWINKLE BULBS, SWIRL C9’S, ETC… BULBS?
Each of bulb type has their own unique set of challenges. We love the genuinely random nature and very subtle “ramping” of  twinkle bulbs and are working on a novel method to recreate them. We’ve just developed our transparent-color glass bulbs. The process for coloring the glass requires special environmental protections in place that few manufacturing facilities have. The filaments are especially visible in a transparent colored bulb, so we’ve been hard at work to develop our novel filament configuration to better replicate the typical tungsten filament seen in these bulbs. We agree that Swirl C9‘s are so special, but aside from custom molds, they really need an interior color finish, a unique process that is very challenging with modern light bulb manufacturing. Ultimately, we want these products too, but strive to limit compromises.

WILL YOU MAKE YOUR  PRODUCTS IN 220-240V?
As with any new business, difficult choices were made. Creating our lights in 2 voltages splits our limited initial investment, and the pandemic has only complicated the process to sell internationally. We do hear you loud and clear! Tru-Tone™ bulbs were created for enthusiasts like yourself, and we recognize that plenty of you live outside the United States. We’re genuinely working to make them available internationally as soon as possible. If you have connections to a local reseller who might be interested in partnering with us, please drop us a line! In the meantime, and if you’re not frightened by international shipping rates, you can place an order and use a voltage step-down converter, and a plug adaptor with any of our light strings. We use UPS for international shipping, and it’s quite fast. If your country is not listed in our checkout, please contact us. For UK residents, we’re working on the process to comply with VAT regulations, and hope to offer you sales this season. In the meantime, we can recommend a third party service myUS.com or Stackry.com in order to shop today.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENT OF DAMAGED GOODS?
If you receive a package that is clearly damaged, refuse the delivery if given the opportunity, and contact us immediately. Each and every bulb is inspected and tested at the factory and safely packed for shipping. Inspect all bulbs upon arrival and contact us for swift and simple replacement of dead or damaged bulbs. Please do not dispose of the damaged item(s) until instructed to do so. Damaged goods must be reported within 48 hours of delivery.

Tru-Tone™ LED filaments are more robust than tungsten filaments but share the same glass enclosures, a critical component in their appearance. Please handle and store Tru-Tone™ bulbs as carefully as you would traditional glass incandescent Christmas bulbs. *That said, we recently discovered the terrible noise in our vacuum was an inadvertently “hoovered” bulb. While the coating received some significant abrasion, it was otherwise undamaged and functional. I think we got lucky, please don’t try this at home.

Our stated average lifespan hours are determined by strict lab testing by the LED component manufacturer (Epistar) and are not indicative of a warranty period. Tru-Tone™ LED Christmas Bulbs have a vintage appearance but are the result of modern electronic developments, and our real-world ongoing testing has surpassed ~9100 hours (~21-28 holiday seasons) with zero failures (September 2021).

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION/ RETURN POLICY?
We strive to provide accurate details and for our products on our site and social media platforms to ensure informed purchases and have faith that you’ll appreciate them at least as much in-person. You’re encouraged to spend time reading other’s reviews and ask any questions prior to purchase. Returns are accepted within 15 days, and subject to a 15% restocking fee. Damaged product will be replaced as specified above. Shipping both ways remains your responsibility. A return label from our discounted UPS account can be issued and sent to you, deducted from your return total.  Returns must be in like-new condition, including the packaging, and safely packed. CANCELLATION REQUESTS: We ship very quickly once you have placed an order. If we haven’t shipped your order, it may be possible to cancel it, minus the non-refundable credit card processing fee.

IS THERE ANY METHOD TO DISTINGUISH TRU-TONE™ BULBS FROM VINTAGE INCANDESCENT?
Tru-Tone™ Classicolor™ bulbs look so much like incandescent Christmas bulbs that in 2020 we placed a discreet gold logo imprint on them near their base to prevent them from getting lost among your other Christmas lights. This year we’ve replaced the logo with a more discreet TRU-TONE stamp in the brass base. When our Classicolor™ ceramic-type bulbs are illuminated, their only giveaway is their lack of scorching heat! If you look closely at our Jeweltone™ bulbs or Candleglow™ bulbs, you’ll recognize our unique Tru-Tone™ LED filament.

DO ANY OF YOUR BULBS USE COLORED LEDS?
No. All Tru-Tone™ bulbs use our own warm-white Tru-Tone™ filament. It’s an integral detail of their incandescent likeness. Our Jeweltone™ bulbs are deeply saturated, but there’s an immediate visual difference between them and bulbs with colored LED’s. The glow cast from all of our bulbs is cozy, warm and bright, the very same as incandescent Christmas bulbs. While vividly colored LED’s have their benefits, in Christmas lights they tend to be harsh, and have a distinctly “electronic” appearance.

ANYTHING SPECIAL I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT DIMMING TRU-TONE™ BULBS?
Tru-Tone™ LED bulbs offer full-range dimming performance on most standard dimmers.  In rare scenarios where you are using a very small number of Tru-Tone™ bulbs, you may need to increase the total wattage on your circuit for your particular dimmer to function properly.  One simple fix in this scenario is to add a single incandescent bulb to the mix. It is possible that you may experience flickering at the very low levels due to their particularly low power consumption., It’s also possible that you may experience inconsistent light levels if you are using a mix of different types and wattages of bulbs. Unlike incandescent bulbs, there is no color-temperature shifting as they dim. This difference is only noticeable with direct comparison at their lowest output.

ARE YOUR CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRING SETS SAFER THAN THE ONES I FOUND IN MY GRANDMA’S ATTIC?
Our custom-assembled vintage-style decorative cord sets are not currently listed with an electrical testing organization (UL, ETL), but they are assembled entirely with officially tested and over–rated components. All plugs and sockets are ETL listed, and the sockets and wire are both UL listed.  Additionally, the very low power consumption and heat output of Tru-Tone™ LED bulbs virtually eliminates the risk of fire. Please do not attempt to remove sockets or otherwise modify light string sets. Use common sense electrical practices and do not operate our Deluxe fabric-covered lights strings in a wet environment. While rated for much higher wattage bulbs, we recommend Tru-Tone™ bulbs in our light string sets for the best and safest performance. Our vintage-inspired Christmas light strings are the result of months of sourcing and testing to achieve a safe, modern-day version of the original Christmas tree light sets from Grandpa’s box of tree decorations.

CAN I USE YOUR LIGHTS ON MY VINTAGE ALUMINUM TREE?
We LOVE aluminum trees, but there’s a reason they are illuminated with a rotating color wheel light. Tru-Tone lights may use very little electricity, but they operate at standard household voltage. All of that aluminum fringe increases the likelihood of contact with the electrical current through the space between the bulb and the socket. The original packaging for these trees warn of this, but many of those boxes have been lost to time. At best you may short out your bulbs, at worst all the terrible things that can happen from an electrical shock/electrocution. We care about your safety; please don’t use electric lights on your aluminum tree.

WHAT IS THE TOTAL LENGTH OF YOUR LIGHT STRINGS?
26 ½ ft. total. There’s an 18″ lead from the plug. The sockets are spaced 12 inches apart, and there’s a 12 in. tail leading to the socket.

HOW MANY LIGHTS DO I NEED FOR MY TREE? C7 OR C9 SIZE?
From our own experience, most standard 6-7 ft. trees are great with 100- 150 lights. Some people put up to 300 on their tree, and that can also look spectacular. With our larger bulbs, you can really use less of them, but this is all personal preference! Many will typically use C7 for inside, C9 for outside, but there are no rules! We like to use C9’s on our indoor 7’ tree and C7’s can look great outdoors on small trees, porch railings, or really anywhere. Personal preference should be your guide!

HOW DOES THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION COMPARE TO INCANDESCENT CHRISTMAS BULBS?
All Tru-Tone LED bulbs consume 0.6watt. Standard Incandescent C7 bulbs use 5 watts. That’s a whopping 88% savings. Standard Incandescent C9 bulbs use 7 watts, so you’ll save even more at 91% energy savings! Put another way, a tree with 125 C7 Tru-Tone bulbs will use 75 watts and glow just as brightly as a tree with 125 C7 incandescent bulbs consuming 625 watts! No wonder the tree served as a space heater!

WHY DO YOU SELL YOUR BULBS AND LIGHT STRINGS (CORDS) SEPARATELY ?
While unconventional to many, this method enables you to select which type of cord and which type of lightbulbs you want to use independently of each other, or like many of our customers who already have cords (or other items they want to use our bulbs in), purchase only the bulbs. Note that If we were to sell complete sets, they would cost exactly the same as sold separately. We hope that in the near future we’ll also offer complete sets again, but as a very small company, this method presently allows us to meet the widest set of interests. We recognize this method requires manually screwing in each bulb. If your individual circumstances make that challenging for you, please reach out to us for assistance.

I OPERATE A STORE AND WOULD LIKE TO SELL TRU-TONE™ BULBS OR LIGHT STRING SETS. DO YOU OFFER WHOLESALE PRICING?
We’re working hard to offer wholesale/retail inquiries for our current and in-development products which may better suit reseller’s needs. Note: we’re not able to accommodate online-only resellers in the near future. Please drop us a line at [email protected]

DO YOU OFFER HIGH-VOLUME DISCOUNTS?
We’ve introduced a 5% discount for everyone for orders $499 and up. Tru-Tone bulbs have more in common with standard household LED bulbs than Christmas lights, and they remain costly to manufacture. While they are priced in-line with other professional grade Christmas bulbs, (even though we think they’re worth more)… trust that we’re working on making them more affordable. In part, the components that make them look so much like vintage bulbs are expensive to manufacture which is why you won’t find bulbs like ours in the big stores. This year (2021), the cost to import goods has been astronomical and we have done our best not to pass those costs on to our customers, keeping our prices the same as last year. As a small, new company, we don’t yet have the buying power to bring that price down, but hope to do so in the future. If you’re a contractor, designer or entertainment destination, etc… where you may require 2000 or more bulbs for non-resale use, please reach out to discuss what we can do to help!

WHO CREATED TRU-TONE™ BULBS?
Every facet of Tru-Tone™ Christmas bulbs from the product design through all the graphics you see are primarily the result of the tremendous efforts of a hard-working and passionate, detail-oriented designer who congratulates you if you’ve read this far and thanks you for your support!

WHAT IS THE FRAGRANCE IN YOUR PACKAGING?
It’s called “Roland Pine”,  perhaps the most popular fragrances (certainly at this time of year) from Soap & Paper Factory in NY., another small business we support. You can get a 10% discount on your purchase with them by entering code TRUTONE during checkout at soapandpaperfactory.com. A precise, very minimal amount is added to each package that ships out, unless you opt-out during checkout. Please note that we take our fragrance sensitivity orders very seriously. We pack any fragrance sensitivity orders in a separate, ventilated storage area, all at the same time and before we pack any other orders each day. No added fragrance ever comes in contact with those orders.

WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED?
Tru-Tone LED lightbulbs are designed here in the USA and are manufactured to our specifications by a leading manufacturer in China. There are not currently any US manufacturing facilities with the practical capability to create our products, but it’s an important factor we’re very passionate about. Trust that your purchase is supporting a small, American business that is passionate about their products and your experience with them. We are always exploring the feasibility of domestic manufacturing. We welcome any leads or personal connections.
